Dr. Alan Mason

The Program Director of the Winter Jewish Music Concert is Dr. Alan Mason.
Alan Mason is Associate Professor of Music at Barry Universityin Miami Shores, where he has taught since 1996.
Alan received the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
Alan is also the Director of Music at Temple Israel of Greater Miami, which he has served since 1991. The temple’s Friday night services are broadcast over the radio each week, and can also be heard live over the internet.
Aside from his teaching and synagogue affiliations, Alan is a frequent performer. He made his Lincoln Center debut in 1983, and his Carnegie Hall debut in 1986. From 1991 to 1998 he played with the New World Symphony, under Michael Tilson Thomas. He served as the pianist for the Florida Philharmonic Chorus from 2001 until 2003. Alan has frequently performed as accompanist for the classical voice competition of youngARTS of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
Alan is one of the country's leading accompanists for singers of Jewish music. In 2007, 2009, and 2011 he was selected to perform as accompanist for the Shabbat services at the Union for Reform Judaism's national biennial convention before more than 5,000 people. Since 2001, he has been an accompanist at the North American Jewish Choral Festival, Kerhonkson, New York. In 2004, Alan performed at England’s famed Limmud Conference. Alan has served as a Vice President of the Guild of Temple Musicians.
Alan frequently accompanies Cantor Alberto Mizrahi. In December 2007, Alan, Hazzan Mizrahi, and the Zamir Chorale performed at the White House Hanukah Party for President and Mrs. Bush and guests.
